Ramada Pier Hotel

Design Brief

Design and construction of a pool, spa, plunge pool and water feature as one easy to manage system.

The Result

The hotel, which has applied for a five star rating, is complemented by cosmopolitan resort style features such as gymnasium, swimming pool, plus function areas, restaurant and cafe dining, wine bar, cocktail bar and ample on-site parking – all within metres of the beach.

A major disadvantage of multiple pools can be complicated hydraulics and controls needed to maintain different flows and temperatures.

In what is a unique design, the Pier Hotel system manages to combine a cold water plunge pool with a warm spa and lap pool with water feature maintained at a comfortable 28 degrees.

The electric cooling/heating system has been designed by Statewide Pool Services of Prospect and built to specification in Melbourne. Another advantage of this single system is economy. Running costs are less than half that of alternatives. All systems are plc controlled.

The pool is located on the second floor with all plant located in the basement. The pools and water feature are a single structure, set on a pier and beam layout that isolates the structure from any building movement.

The pool finish is imported glass mosaic with the illuminated water feature blades a contrasting colour to the grey-blue pool proper.

This design was awarded the gold medal for "Best New Commercial Swimming Pool" at the 2004 National Swimming Pool Awards.
